Amazing designers are being featured at Maison de Luxe at Greystone Estate, including the top talent of Lori Dennis, the Los Angeles-based interior designer who will soon be featured on HGTV’s 2012 series The Real Designing Women. As an award-winning designer, Lori’s plate is full of design projects, so I recently sat down with her to discuss why she chose to focus on a showcase home project.
Design talents are pushed to the limits at Showcase events, where designers are able to truly inspire the audience through their creations. Design elements can be over-the-top and as Lori states “it forces me to truly push my limits and do something different”.
In collaborating with Jill Crawford, the jewel-box inspired meditation room shows how pushing the set design aesthetic for meditation rooms can morph from the traditional Zen-inspired rooms to newer ideas of what a meditation room can be. “Each element within the room provides support to this new idea of meditation from the grass cloth with crystals to insects and nature-elements to the custom-made jewel-box bed with built-in speakers.”
Lori began her design career in 1998 in Los Angeles after people kept asking who designed her home. When she stated that she had, in fact, designed her own home, word-of-mouth spread and she began to take on projects.
Today, Lori’s company is a full service design and construction firm that practices luxury and responsible design. Focusing on a clean, comfortable and sophisticated aesthetic style, she incorporates the home owners’ possessions when possible, edits out extraneous items and always brings a sense of humor to the project.
When asked about color Lori states, “My go-to colors right now are turquoise, orange and gold. They fascinate me. And, I like white, sheets, towels, clothes, walls- it’s a good background for all the other colors and it’s clean.” Walking the Showcase, you’ll find these colors incorporated within the room design.
